Taking care of our health is super important and making sure we carry out regular health exams is one way to do it.

Here are the most important exams you should do throughout your life:

Pap Smear

During this exam, your doctor will take a sample of cells from your cervix to test them for abnormalities.

According to the American Cancer Association, pap smears should be performed once a year after age 21 or once you become sexually active.

HPV Test

If a woman has an active sexual life, doctors recommend performing the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) test once a year – especially if the woman has exposed herself to risky situations (such as having unprotected sex). This blood test detects the presence of the virus in the blood.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Test

There are many sexually transmitted infections out there that pose a danger to your health - especially if preventative measures, such as using a condom, are not taken. Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted disease.

A test for sexually transmitted diseases should be carried out regularly. A good tip is to get tested before and after having a new sexual partner.

Mammography

Mammograms and ultrasounds are two techniques that analyze the condition of the breast and detect any lumps or cysts. Experts suggest having an annual mammogram after age 40. If there is a family history of breast cancer, it is recommended to start getting tested before this age.

Colon and Rectal Exam

Colorectal cancer affects men and women equally. It is critical to perform a test periodically to detect any abnormality starting from the age of 50.

Remember that just as we take the time to visit our friends, go out with our boyfriend or go to a party, it is also essential to make time for our health. ❤️
