When a light period occurs, many women feel that it may be due to a possible pregnancy. Generally, these are women who do not usually have problems with their periods, women who have regular periods (perhaps even heavy periods), and the day that they get their period, they find that suddenly the amount of blood is much less than usual.

Possible Causes

Often, there is no single common cause to this problem, rather, the causes usually vary from woman to woman.

Heredity

The genetic makeup of a person plays a vital role in determining the duration and pattern of a woman's menstrual cycle.

Hormonal Imbalance

Estrogen and progesterone are the two female hormones that primarily regulate the menstrual cycle. If any of these hormones increases or decreases beyond normal levels, the cycle may become irregular. This condition is most evident at the onset of menstruation, during puberty, or at menopause.

Other Causes

Stress is known to wreak havoc on the menstrual cycle. If you are stressed, your menstrual cycle may be the first to show signs of abnormality. Also keep in mind that the rules are not always the same, and it is easy for small changes in our lives to change the amount or duration of our periods.

If you have any doubts or concerns, consult with your gynecologist.
